What is a NDIS Participant?

If you are a NDIS Participant, you have met the access requirements and will have an individual NDIS plan that will contain funding to help you live an ordinary life.

If you are a Participant who has a Core Supports NDIS budget, you can purchase your everyday use items through us. This includes continence, home enteral nutrition (HEN) and disability-related health products, and continence related equipment.

You can access the NDIS Participant portal here for further information.

There are three options to manage your NDIS funding:

  • Self-Managed : you manage your own funds
  • Agency Managed: the NDIA manages your funds
  • Plan Managed: your budget is managed by a Plan Manager.

What does NDIS Self-Managed mean?

Self-management is when you manage your NDIS funding. It gives you the flexibility and choice to decide what supports you buy to pursue your plan goals. It lets you think creatively about how you can use your funds to best meet your needs.

You can access the NDIS Self-Management portal here for further information

What does NDIS Agency-Managed mean?

If your funding is Agency-managed, the NDIA will pay your providers, manage your providers and manage your financial records. This means you have less things to do when it comes to managing your funding. Agency-managed is also referred to as NDIS-Managed.

When your plan is managed by the NDIA:

  • You are able to choose from a range of NDIS registered providers.
  • Your providers claim payment electronically from your funding.
  • You cannot use unregistered providers.
  • You can look on the myplace portal to see what claims providers are making against your NDIS funding and keep track of your budget.
  • The NDIA will manage your book-keeping and records of your spending.

You can access the NDIS Agency-Managed portal here for further information.

What does NDIS Plan-Managed mean?

A plan manager will pay providers for supports delivered. A plan manager will help you monitor your funds, and provide financial reporting. If you use a registered plan manager, they will pay your providers and manage your financial records.

A plan manager can help you:

  • increase your financial and plan management skills
  • learn how to self-manage your plan
  • pay providers
  • increase your choice of providers
  • get NDIS plan budget reports and greater budget oversight.

You can access the NDIS Plan Management portal here for further information.

What does a NDIS Co-ordinator do?

A local area co-ordinator helps people with disability to access the support they need to live the life they choose.

The support coordinator will work with you to help you understand your NDIS plan, including:

  • your support budget and the kinds of things you can use your funding for
  • how your funding is managed
  • what other requirements need to be met to access these supports such as when quotes might be required, what can or cannot be claimed, how much can be claimed, and when service bookings required.

You can access the NDIS Co-ordinator portal here for further information.
